What Will You Gain from This Training?

Our Aviation English Training Programme will give you the ability to speak and understand the language used in radiotelephony communication.

In line with ICAO Cir 323, this course is designed to help you achieve at least ICAO Operational Level 4 across all six proficiency areas: pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and interaction.

Practical, Real-World Training Content

Following ICAO recommendations, the curriculum is task-based and contextualized within authentic aviation communication situations, including routine and non-routine, unusual or abnormal situations radiotelephony exchanges.

Throughout the course, you will:

Cover both plain language and standard phraseology, ensuring you can deal effectively with all the non-standard, abnormal or emergency situations which pilots and controllers encounter and for which standardized phraseology is insufficient situations where phraseology alone is insufficient.

Identify the operational contexts in which English communication is required, making sure that training directly supports the language needs of real aviation scenarios.

Engage in meaningful interaction rather than grammar exercises, as ICAO emphasizes that proficiency is more than linguistic correctness—it also requires the ability to communicate effectively under time pressure.

Interaction

This refers to the ability to actively participate in spontaneous dialogue and achieve communicative goals effectively. As proficiency increases, you require less effort from your conversation partners to maintain smooth communication, showing quick and appropriate responses, taking conversational initiative, volunteer new information, and managing misunderstandings as they occur.

Fluency

Refers to the ability to produce spontaneous, unrehearsed speech at a natural and appropriate pace. As your proficiency improves, you reduce non-functional hesitations and fillers, and become better at guiding listeners through their message using vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation effectively.

Comprehension

This is the ability to recognize and understand speech, even in challenging conditions such as background noise, unfamiliar accents, or unexpected topics. As this skill develops, you become faster and more accurate in understanding complex messages, ensuring you can respond appropriately in operational situations.

Structure

Developing grammar and syntax skills enables you to accurately express meanings and intentions using correct sentence structures and tenses. Strong grammatical competence is a key indicator of overall language proficiency.

Vocabulary

Building vocabulary skills allows you to quickly and accurately use both common expressions and topic-specific words during your communication. A strong vocabulary also supports effective paraphrasing, helping you to convey meaning even when the exact word is not available.

Pronunciation

Developing pronunciation skills will help you produce clear and intelligible messages by mastering individual sounds, stress patterns, rhythm, and intonation. This ensures that your speech can be easily understood in an international aviation environment, even if they have a regional accent.

Interactive, Communicative Training Approach

According to ICAO Circular 323 AN/185, the effectiveness of an Aviation English Training Programme depends heavily on the use of communicative and interactive teaching approaches that reflect the operational environment. Therefore, our programme places strong emphasis on:

✈️ Role-plays, simulations, and scenario-based discussions that replicate the types of exchanges pilots and controllers encounter in both routine and non-routine situations, rather than focusing exclusively on explicit grammar instruction.

✈️ Training that prioritizes authenticity of context and real-time interaction, fully aligning with ICAO’s emphasis that language proficiency must be assessed and developed within the specific operational contexts where communication takes place.

✈️ Instructor-led activities designed to enhance learners’ ability to manage operational communication events by developing both their linguistic resources and their strategic competence, enabling them to clarify, check, and confirm information as required in real-world aviation operations.

Continuous Progress Monitoring and Real-World Assessment

In line with ICAO Circular 323, our programme includes continuous assessment and progress monitoring, with performance-based evaluations directly aligned with the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale

✔️ Learners undergo both formative assessment, providing ongoing feedback during the learning process, and summative assessment, ensuring a final evaluation of overall communicative competence.

✔️ Assessments focus on language use in operational tasks, emphasizing effective and intelligible communication under the types of time constraints and operational pressures typical of real-world aviation settings.

✔️ Evaluation criteria are explicitly mapped to the six ICAO language proficiency areas—pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and interaction—ensuring that language proficiency is evaluated holistically, not just as isolated technical accuracy.

Expert Instructors with Aviation and Language Qualifications

ICAO Circular 323 explicitly states that instructors responsible for delivering Aviation English Training should possess dual qualifications: both recognized credentials in English language teaching and sufficient operational aviation knowledge to understand the context and content of the communication events being taught.

📌 Our instructors are dual-competent professionals, capable of integrating linguistic expertise with first-hand knowledge of operational aviation communication, ensuring that training is authentic, relevant, and operationally meaningful.

📌 They are also trained in the application of the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale, ensuring that assessments are conducted consistently with international standards and reflect the performance descriptors set out by ICAO.

📌 Furthermore, they provide learners with meaningful, targeted feedback, designed to highlight specific strengths and areas for improvement, always framed within the operational realities of flight operations and air traffic control environments.

This programme is not just another language course—it is a real aviation communication training that will prepare you for the complexities of live radiotelephony communication!
