THE ICAO ELP LANGUAGE EXAM
What is the ICAO ELP?
English Language Proficiency
While mechanical failures have become less and less prominent in aircraft accidents, ICAO has been paying an increasing attention to the human factors of aviation, such as communication.
Communication being one of the most important human elements has hence received a renewed attention and so a standardized examinations system, the so-called English Language Proficiency (ELP) has been created by the ICAO.
The main goal of ELP is to assess the level of your command of English Language in a standardized structure.
Why is it so important?
Safety
As language is the bedrock of communication, English Language Proficiency is a flight safety issue. From our side, the highest level of flight safety is guaranteed, have a look at our team!
ICAO ELP is therefore required to fulfil your duties as a Professional Pilot (Instrument Rating, Airline Transport Pilot License), but it is mandatory for Private Pilot License holders as well, if they want to fly abroad.
What should I know to get the ELP Certificate?
Aviation English and Radiotelephony
You must prove that you are able to understand basic radiotelephony and you must be in command of “plain” aviation-related English language.
The assessment focuses on the above-mentioned aspects rather than your knowledge of technical or operational aspects.
You will be evaluated on six so-called holistic descriptors:
Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Structure, Fluency, Comprehension and Interaction.
What are the types of certificates?
There are 6 levels.
You must achieve at least Level 4 to pass the exam.
